Just a quick hello, the move went well but too much to do & too little time to do it. I did a moth trap last Friday only 2 days after we finished moving, there over 250 moths & I'm still sorting them. This is one that came to the window soon after we moved, just to whet your appetites.
It's called a Brown China-mark.
Sorry it's a quick visit, will pop in again in a few days!
P.S This is the link to my previous moth thread http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/wildlife/f/13609/t/111255.aspx
Best wishes

I have to confess that it's not my pic but one from a Twitter friend after he appealed for help to ID ... had I found it then it would have been a Butterfly hatching in my house by now!

And great to find out my Buddleia Moth is a Broad-barred White, so many beautiful images of it on google! And it has the lovely eyes I like to see!
Now am looking forward to your holiday thread!
Have you all seen the news about the huge & very early influx of Convolvus Hawkmoths from Southern Europe reported in all the papers today & on Beeb news?
Seriously large creature, must be quite something to see one close up ... Moth expert on Beeb interview says it's the size of a small bat, eek! UK Safari site says beware about picking up as it has painfully sharp spines on legs which it grips on with!
Unfortunately I only have one poor specimen of it's favourite nectar plant, Nicotinic, but does have four blossoms ready ... better news is that it is very fond of wine/beer/sugar on ropes or tree trunks (I well remember Noisette's early post when she used this sticky/drippy method) & caterpillars food plant is Bindweed, of which I have oooooodles!!
So I shall be watching at dusk in hope!
^^^^^^ Nicotiana ^^^^^^^
My cousin-in-law who is something of a moth expert and author of this book has photographed one in his garden near Swansea. Here's the photo on his Facebook page on a Nicotiana just as you describe, Wendy.

Not allowed in to view it TJ!
Oh, that's odd but then I don't really know how Facebook works. Try this link to his Facebook page

I can get in with that link thanks TJ but blessed if I can find the pic!!
Strong family resemblance there!
That's strange. When I click on the link his page opens and the three pics of the moth are right at the top. I don't understand Facebook which is why I don't use it. They also want to know too much about you - nosy devils.
