It was a windy but sunny morning when I went down to the Ferry today. I managed to arrive just as one of the local fishermen was serving up breakfast........bits of leftover fish for the local gulls! No wonder there's a healthy population of them there. I just had to watch these two on the slipway:
This situation looked a bit odd as the older bird doesn't look quite old enough to be a parent - or am I wrong?
The older bird looks very bemused!
This was a surprise - a greater black-backed gull! I didn't realise what it was until I looked at my book at home to check out the pink legs.
A young herring gull helping itself.
Another surprise - the first of two ringed juveniles I saw. The ring here reads ZKC.
Give me MORE!
MORE!
The second ringed juvenile. This ring read VRL.
This bird is very in-your-face - check out the older bird's near panic!
Enjoy, as always.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
You might be lucky to see the Swallows resting on the wartime bunkers which sometimes lends itself to some good close up pics

Thanks, Bob. Not a patch on yours but I do enjoy getting out and about with a camera.
There is always someone better but your photos are still things of sheer beauty - as are many others' photos one here. It's part of why this Community is such a joy to be part of.
Unknown said: Clare, that's very kind of you to say so, but there are lots of people much better than me and I enjoy seeing everyones pictures anyway- its the picture that counts, more so than the quality of the picture and some people are much better at capturing a moment or an expression than I am - your BHHG for example.

I agree with Bob, strange really because someone I know has had the honour of showing his photos on a calendar for 2014 [unrelated to birds], the snag is that the frontispiece has been photoshopped, which is not my scene, photography is like punctuation to me as long as someone is getting the message across that is what matters without tampering with the photo
Nothing exciting at the FXT Ferry this morning, just these two having a natter
Oh how gorgeous!! I ADORE Gulls - of every kind, but especially Herring Gulls and Fulmars! Wonderful photos.
Btw, how is everyone still able to post photos directly into their threads? I can't see how to do it, it'll only let me post a link to click on to view a photo. The forum has completely changed since I last posted a photo thread and I'm totally confused!
Hi, Ella - it's nice to see you! Not sure why you can't post photos - you have to be in rich formatting but I think that was the case before.
One for you Clare from the LBO spotters board
