Now that autumn's most definitely here and making itself felt, spare a thought for the small creatures which will be looking for somewhere snug to see out the cold months.

This weekend, why not try making a home for insects? It's really easy, though you can make it as ornate and complex as you like... you could create anything from the insect equivalent of a one-bedroom chalet to a big bug hotel! Lots of garden-friendly creepy-crawlies will thank you.

    Have you any ideas on the best place to site a bug house ? In the open, among shrubs etc or in a covered area ?
