Walkers by Ben Hall (rspb-images.com)

If you made any new year resolutions, chances are they will have included one of the following:

Get fit or do more exercise

Lose weight

Spend more time with friends or family

And that, my friends, is where we come in. In 2011, we bring to you our state-of-the-art, all-purpose outdoor gyms - in fact there are over 100 you can visit across the UK! OK, they're not exactly gyms - they're more like nature reserves. But they are great places to enjoy a walk, jog or bike ride.

They are much prettier and cheaper than your average gym, and they include the surprise element too - what creatures will you spot on your way around the reserve?

You can burn those Christmas calories and get fit on our nature trails, or enjoy a walk with friends. Many of our reserves have cafes, so if you'd prefer to catch up with pals over a cuppa and a slice of cake, we can help there, too.

If you're really keen to get fit outdoors, you can take part in health walks every Monday at Wat Tyler Country Park, Essex, and at Leighton Moss reserve, Lancashire. They are free, and a great way to make friends and stay fit.

So ditch the gym and head for a ditch, wood, lake, mountain - the choice is yours. Have a happy, healthy weekend.
