It might seem a bit early to be telling you to look out for fungus, but I've certainly already noticed quite a few mushrooms and toadstools while out and about around The Lodge this week.

And as flowers start to wilt away, and trees think about dropping their leaves, fungi bring a splash of welcome colour.

There are red ones:

Fly agaric. View from above

round ones:

Common earthball fungus.

even finger-like ones:

Yellow stagshorn fungus.

They grow on trees:

spring out from the ground:

Edible stump fungus.

and even get nibbled on!

You can pretty much see fungi anywhere - in your garden, at a local park, or on one of our reserves.

And if you have kids, why not do our latest WildSquare survey with them? This month it's all about looking for fungi.

Which just leaves me to ask, what mushrooms and toadstools have you 'funguys' seen lately? Oh, come on - stop groaning - that's one of the better puns!
