Add a splash of colour to your garden this weekend by turning your balcony, patio, or window ledge into a miniature garden.Although window boxes, hanging baskets, planters and tubs may not be the largest of areas, you'll find lots of insects more than grateful for your efforts.Just imagine being an insect trying to find pollen across acres of flowerless towns and cities. Coming across your window box could be a very welcome stop-off indeed!
What will you plant? You can use tubs and pots to grow climbers, small shrubs and vegetables, while containers are good to grow a small tree or wildflower meadow in.You could even grow herbs, fragrant plants or plants with decorative or soft foliage. They'll not only be good to touch, smell and look at, but also get insects such as butterflies, moths and bees very excited, too.

I have a whole row of pots covering an unsightly and useless path. Bees favourites are cosmos, single dahlias, fuscia and lavender. Hoverflies go wild for lilies!
