Would you dangle upside down to get a meal? It's all part of everyday life for a nuthatch - one of my favourite birds to watch. They're not afraid to hang upside down or run headfirst down tree trunks while looking for food. But then they have long, curved claws to help them hang on to the bark.

It's a shame your nuthatch didn't turn up at the appointed hour, blueboots. Don't birds read Birds magazine...?
We have a nuthatch that regularly visits our feeding station but not during our chosen birdwatch hour so he is not recorded. It is always exciting to see him arrive on the nut feeder.
The more we study nature the more we need to learn from it. It is amazing watching them travel down a tree searching away for food. Great photograph too ☺
