When you think of birds that migrate, the swallow is often one that springs to mind first. But as the last of our summer visitors head for southern Europe or Africa for a warmer winter, there are new arrivals incoming.
Birds like this redwing are flooding into the UK from Scandinavia and further east, hoping to find food and a kinder climate. Redwings usually spend most of their time on farmland, where they can search for worms in the fields and grab berries from the hedges, and in woodland. But if you're really lucky, you could see them in your garden.
This fabulous photo was taken by Nigel Blake and is part of our RSPB Images library.
