So the Birdwatch is over – that was so last weekend!

For you, this may well be true, but not for the birds. They’ll still be visiting your garden, looking for food, drink and places to roost. A few might even be starting to think about nesting. Yes, really!

Your very own nature reserve

So what can you do to make your garden the perfect spot for wildlife? How can you turn it into a reserve on your doorstep?

One simple thing that you can do is sign up for Homes for Wildlife. It’s free, simple and once you’ve popped in your garden details, will give you tailored advice so that you make your garden a fantastic home for wildlife.

You’ll also get an e-newsletter once a month (if you want). This is bursting with tips and ideas to help wildlife in your garden.

Get involved

You’ll be able to use the username and password you created to submit your Big Garden Birdwatch results to get involved with our Homes for Wildlife community group. There you’ll find helpful blogs written by Wildlife gardening guru Adrian Thomas, and forums where you can ask questions and share your experiences. Why not get involved?

Adrian has also written an award-winning book: Gardening for Wildlife. That's well worth a look too.

If we all, me included, can make our gardens just that little bit better for wildlife then we can give it a fighting chance.

And what’s more, is that maybe next year we’ll all get more birds in our gardens for Big Garden Birdwatch!
