At last we have been able to announce the winners of this summers Weymouth Wetlands Photographic Competition. As plenty of you will know we have had several problems with the gallery and forum but we got there in the end. So without further a do, here is the winner of the open category.
 
This picture was taken by Se4tanner and shows a beautiful family of Great Crested Grebes. As well as being remarkably cute, this species is responsible for the existence of the RSPB. These birds were shot almost to extinction in the UK because of their plumage which was used for ladies hats. A group of ladies apposed this and got it banned which lead to the creation of the RSPB. Well done Sean!
Runner up prize goes to Fiorano for capturing this image of one of the more elusive bird species at Radipole and Lodmoor. This was actually first the photographers first clear photo of this species.
 
The people and wildlife category wasn’t as popular as we’d hoped but the winning image taken by ‘Yogi Bear’ truly embraces the concept of the theme. It shows how urban our nature reserves are. The picture was called ‘A room with a view’.
