It’s with great sadness that I have to report the sudden death of our colleague and friend Nick Quintrell. Many of you will have bumped into Nick whilst out on our Weymouth reserves or at least you would have admired some of his work at Radipole and Lodmoor in which he took a lot of pride. I am sure anyone who knew Nick would agree that his knowledge and hard work has contributed massively towards creating two amazing nature reserves during his 10 years of working for RSPB. He will be greatly missed by many people and obviously our thoughts are with his family and friends
As you can imagine we are all shocked and still coming to terms with the loss of Nick, hence the brevity of this note. We will post something more appropriate in due course.
Oh my. Just read this. I had no idea. What happened?
R.I.P.
Nick was a man with huge heart, always putting others first. a perfectionist and so passioante about nature. My time with Nick had so many happy memories and he has taken a piece of my heart with him. i will always love him dearly. it is so good to see he had so many friends and the comments above are so hart warming.
I've just heard about this. Some very sad news and although I didn't know him very well, I am proud to say that I worked with him for the six months that I was at the Weymouth Wetlands.
My thoughts are going all out to all of the team at Radipole and Lodmoor.
Regards,
David White- Radipole Information Assistant November '07- May '08
Oh dear - that's very sad news. A brilliant blog writer among other talents.
We have lost a true champion of the countryside. Nick was without question one of the most vital members of the Weymouth team, as a link between what was happening on the reserves and passing that on to the visitors. Intensely proud of his work, and driven by the benefits it produced for wildlife and people, Nicks knowledge, wit and keen intelligence were apparent to anyone who met him. A true music fan my main memories of Nick will be pop quizzes whilst reed cutting on sunny winter's days, and a great night out watching The Wonderstuff (one of his favourite bands) this summer.
