Our new Viewing Shelter has been open for a couple of months now and visitors are currently getting superb views of the Marsh Harriers over the scrape. The male has mainly been seen as the female is on the nest. Photographer Paul Williams has very kindly given us permission to use some of his amazing images that he has taken from the Viewing Shelter. Some of them are below:Paul captured a dramatic moment where a food parcel is being passed from the male to the female Marsh Harrier. The food is an unfortunate Water Rail.
This superb shot is the male Marsh Harrier flying past some of the bushes around the new scrape.
Another recent visitor over the past week to Radipole Lake is a pair of Red Kites. Paul managed to capture the pair together at the Viewing Shelter.
Last Wednesday visitors were treated to a Glossy Ibis which flew past the reserve twice. Paul was lucky enough to be on hand to capture its flying visit.
Over the past month there have been several sightings of up to 10 Cattle Egrets on the scrape at Radipole Lake.
All photos were taken from the Viewing Shelter and are copyright: Paul Williams. Paul's website: www.paulwilliams.photography I'm sure you will agree that the images are superb. Thank you very much Paul for allowing us to use them.
Our Orchid season is nearly upon us. The Southern Marsh Orchid leaves are starting to be seen coming up through the damper parts of the reserve. This one I snapped this afternoon is on the path going towards the Viewing Shelter.
For the latest sightings contact Radipole Lake Discovery Centre, details below or pop in and see us. Hot and cold refreshments, sandwiches and snacks available.
