It's the first day of Autumn, where has this year gone?!  It's a beautiful day though here at Radipole Lake and our resident Kingfishers have been delighting our visitors all week.  Two Kingfishers from the Discovery Centre window only this morning.  Visitors watched as they flitted across the lake and perched on their post several times.  There are not many places you can relax with a coffee and watch a Kingfisher.  Luckily RSPB Volunteer Martin Jones-Gill was on hand to capture a lovely snap of our turquoise jewelled feathered friend.

Also seen out of the Discovery Centre window was our resident Cormorants hanging their wings out to dry. Great Crested Grebes were also about.  In the reed beds, Bearded Tits have been seen and heard with their characteristic "pinging" along with Cetti's and Reed Warblers with their explosive unmistakable calls.  Butterflies seen today were Red Admirals, Commas, Small Tortoishells and Large Whites.  The Emperor, Migrant Hawker and Southern Hawker Dragonflies have been whizzing through the air around the reserve on this sunny warm day.

Though it's quiet over on Lodmoor at the moment, Bearded Tits, Cetti's Warblers, Little Egrets and a Peregrine have been seen today. Martin was over at Lodmoor this morning and took a lovely snap of a Grey Heron coming in to land.
