Following on from yesterdays blog a picture of frog and spawn by Allan taken in the self same (and justly named) amphibian pool. While out listening for bittern on Radipole this morning, Anne - very much our amphibian go to girl - found newts within the secret garden pools for the first time.
Although no 'boomers' were noted Will did have excellent views of bittern on Lodmoor and Anne her very first Radipole otter. Reward to both for their unstinting efforts on the reserves over the winter.
And Anne had prolonged views of second Radipole otter fishing at dawn the following day - must be like buses the Radipole otters!
Pleased to hear about the newts, another valuable addition to the reserves growing list of species. We have a pretty awesome selection at Radipole when you stop to think about it. Now if I could just get a glimpse of those pesky otters, a few more early mornings yet I fear.
I'm out to Lodmoor forthwith!
I'm glad you included a frog on this second blob blog, felt a bit uneasy that I couldn't see a frog for the life of me on the first one!! It's also brilliant that we now have newts in the amphibian pool and it's comforting to know that we have an amphibianist amongst us (wonder if that's a word!).
Seize the day!
