It's a grey, windy, rainy day at Radipole today, not many people or birds about. The water levels are high but some hardy Mallards and Teal were swimming about in front of the window at the Discovery Centre.

Our resident Hooded Merganser seemed to be enjoying the rain and was enthusiastically ducking and diving in the water, entertaining the two of us that were in the Centre this morning.

Last weekend Radipole Lake took part in the Big Reserves Birdwatch. Despite the wet weather over 50 species were recorded on Saturday and over 40 species on Sunday including Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Kingfisher, Bearded Tits and Otter sightings.

Meanwhile the work continues on the new scrape and north pools. Earlier this week the materials for the new screen were unloaded by staff and volunteer estates team.

At the moment work is slightly delayed due to the wet weather, the area is currently flooded. The Viewing Screen is expected to be open sometime in March. We will keep you posted.
