Craft activities in the Discovery CentreQuite a number of children have visited the Discovery Centre recently and have been busy making craft birds of different 'variations and species' at our craft table. When they have finished making their birds, staff hang them up decorating the beams making a colourful and welcome addition to our Discovery Centre.

The Marsh Harriers have been active today with up to FIVE being seen soaring over the reedbeds this morning, 3 females and two males. Sand Martins are continuing to arrive in increasing numbers, a Willow Warbler has been seen today and the Cetti's Warblers are being very noisy in the reedbeds, A dozen Pochard are still around on the river, with Shoveler, Gadwall and Shelduck. Also large numbers of Tufted Ducks on the lake. The Hooded Merganser continues to delight visitors, he was roaming the river up at the concrete bridge as well as around bridge by the Discovery Centre.

Black Tailed Godwits

A group of Black Tailed Godwits arrived this morning on Radipole Lake. RSPB Volunteer Martin Gill-Jones, captured this group over at Lodmoor.

Reed Bunting

Reed Buntings are also being seen in the reedbeds. Martin snapped this one in the Alder Trees overlooking the river.

Hawworth in Flower

Blackthorn in Flower

Our hedgerows are starting to become colourful with spring flowers. The Hawthorn in bud last week is now coming into flower and the Blackthorn is blooming in earnest.

Cuckoo-flower/Lady's SmockAlexanders

The verges along the path are rapidly turning green with fresh new growth. The first Cuckoo-flowers are out in bloom, I saw two plants this morning with more to come. The Alexanders outside the Discovery Centre and around the car park is also coming into flower.

Grape Hyacinth

A large patch of Grape Hyacinth is now flowering. Obviously a garden escape but a welcome splash of blue along the path.

Mallards

Coming back from my morning walk, I saw these three Mallards outside the Discovery Centre. One lucky female looking blissfully happy with two chaps to herself ;-)
