As I'm writing this, the sun is shining and I'm looking out on the wonderful views of Radipole Lake. I'm sat inside the Discovery Centre Café, with a cup of coffee. May has been such a brilliant month for wildlife.

Swifts, swallows, house martins and sand martins have all been arriving and it's been such a joy to watch them zipping around catching insects on the wing. I've also loved seeing garden birds and sand martins with beaks full of nest materials and families of goslings and cygnets swimming in formation around the Lake. Dragonflies and damselflies are new sightings this month too, Norfolk hawkers being a notable sighting.  Common terns continue to arrive at Lodmoor but perhaps the biggest excitement was the arrival of a purple heron!

The volunteer warden team in Weymouth has been focusing on completing the fence in place of the old derelict duck feeding platform, which is now completed and looks amazing! Our volunteers have also been working hard to ensure fences are stock-proof now that cattle are grazing the Weymouth reserves.

We had the last of our Dawn Chorus Walks this month... and what a great time we had on those. Singing reed warblers, sedge warblers and Cetti's warblers were heard in number! There's been plenty to spot in the ponds too... why not take a walk round to Radipole's pond dipping area and see what you can spot! £3 per child. With many activities and events to get involved with in the upcoming months, the fun just doesn't stop!
