To conclude the month of April, I had a lovely walk around Radipole Lake this morning, before the rain started. Shouty Cetti's warblers, soaring marsh harriers and songful sedge warblers dominated my sightings.

Other notable sightings from this month are: black winged stilts, whimbrel and whitethroat at Lodmoor.

The warden team have been busy reconstructing the duck feeding area opposite the Discovery Centre at Radipole Lake. They have had to remove the old rotting structure and are now on the way to completing the new fencing!

The visitor team have been busy getting underway with the first of many events planned for the year. Birdwatching for Beginners has seen lots of new interest in birdwatching and improving binocular and ID skills, and the dawn chorus walks are worth getting up early for!

There's still more events to come in the upcoming weeks:

  • Nature Tots for 2.5-5 year olds and their families
  • Birdwatching for Beginners Courses
  • Nearly the Dawn Chorus guided walks
  • There are many other events and activities happening throughout the year, so head over to our website to browse and book on! https://events.rspb.org.uk/radipolelake

We also hosted over 120 people to our reserves on 16th April, who were visiting us on a wildlife cruise trip. They learnt about our reserves, our species and their habitat management and litter picked for us too! We are so happy to have hosted them.
