Today dawn chorus walk turned into something pretty exciting this morning. The walk started with the usual Reed and Sedge Warblers singing then a few Cetti’s chipped in. It then started to rain which made us dash towards the buddleia viewing shelter where we saw this beauty flying in front of us!

Okay, it wasn’t making any noise so should have known better than to turn up on a dawn chorus walk but it was a welcome addition to the list of birds we had already accumulated. It was certainly a good reward for everyone who had made the effort to get up at the crack of dawn to wander round Radipole in what was potentially quite heavy rain! Other good birds included a rather unseasonable female Goldeneye, the pair of Marsh Harrier and a brief visit from one of the Kingfishers. In my view a pretty good walk and was made even better when we finished the walk with bacon sarnies!

As ever, our twitter account should keep you up to date with sightings and we'll keep you informed about the where abouts of our Night Heron.

  • As a member of the group that was there this morning it was a special treat indeed to catch a sight of the heron so early and then to finish off with the bar headed goose at the end during breakfast. Dont how you managed to arrange these two but well done. Thank you for a cracking visit this morning.
