Ok, I'm going to leave myself wide open to ridicule here, I saw these five chaps and chapettes to the south of the Island on the Roach (I've had to crop two females out of the photo) the males were displaying very elegantly, they were at some distance (hence the poor photo) when I saw the three dark ones I thought it was the three Grebe's i'd just seen down near Paglesham creek with two Shellducks close by, but when I lfted my Bino's I realised they were something different, I'm kicking myself as I should know what they are but can't for the life of me think what!! - I'm a novice to this game you see, it would be much appreciated if someone could put me out of my misery, thanks. Growing up, my Mum always claimed to feel bad when a bird would slam head-first into our living room window. If she "really" felt bad, though, she'd have moved the bird feeder outside.

I've gone wild on Wallasea!
Well BOB what a grand sight, superb Red-breasted Mergansers in full sail. They are winter visitors so may not be around much longer and are now in the throws of courtship with much head bobbing as males compete for the favours of the ladies. Well done for capturing them on camera and hope you enjoyed them as much as I always do!

Ahh!! Thank you for your help sir - it's very much appreciated, yes I enjoyed them greatly, they rounded off a great morning, amongst the normal suspects there was a big female Hen Harrier, 3 x Great Crested Grebe's, these 5 x Mergansers and my first really good long look at a nicely coloured male Reed Bunting, is there anywhere better to spend a day than on Wallasea when it's in full flow?
