Good grief its February already! No sooner have we heaved a sigh of relief that one year's events are complete, but here we go again - its time to plan for the year ahead.  Our first event proved a runaway success, with demand for places on Something Wild and Wonderfowl soon outstripping capacity.
On Sunday January 30, we welcomed 50 visitors to our base for the day in the Canewdon Village hall, just a few miles up the road from Wallasea.  The RSPB film Waterlands, narrated by Tom Conti, proved a suitable introduction to our wetland work, to get the audience in the mood for our own waterlands, which they were to visit after the film.
Wyvern Community Transport came up trumps again - many thanks to the boys who drove the minibuses! After the film, our guests were taken down to the island, accompanied by our local bird experts, and as the sun came out they were treated to something special in the sightings of waders and waterfowl and distant hunting raptors.
If you missed this date, don't worry there are more treats in store.
On March 5th and 19th, the first of our Wallasea Wanders will begin.  Take a walk in the wild with RSPB experts, who will point out the birds to be seen on along the way and introduce you to the project. It is hoped to continue these walks, varying them according to tides and wildlife or flora to be seen at different times of year.
May brings two very different events: Wild Coast Brass will be an evening of RSPB images and the music of the fantastic Rayleigh Brass held on May 7, in Leigh-on-Sea, followed by a complete contrast - the Wild Coast Paddle on Sunday May 15th.  This is already booking up fast, with eager canoeists and kayakers keen to circumnavigate the coast of wallasea in their craft.
Future dates are still to be agreed, but the Wild Coast Weekend will take place again in September with a wide array of displays from local producers of craft, food and drink backed up by the sound of live music from local entertainers.Watch out for a possible extra event in July for outdoors enthusiasts.
The Wallasea team will also be taking part in various events around the area - so look out, you never know where we'll pop up!  If you see us out and about be sure to come and say hello.
All details of our events will, of course, be on our web site events pages and also publicised locally.  If you'd like to be added to our mailing list for update newsletters and events details please get in touch.

I've gone wild on Wallasea!
