As the weather looks set fair for the weekend, and some of us are in need of some fresh air and wide open spaces, why not head out along the seawall this weekend and see what's out there around Wallasea Island. Keen eyes spotted the first Little Stint of the Autumn last weekend, while the sun was out. Those of us not so sure what we were looking at soon recognised the distinctive call of the 'peewit', or lapwing, which can now be seen in good numbers. Catch the tide on its way out and the mudflats are heaving with birdlife, so google those tide timetables before planning your trip! Don't forget to look inland too though - there's often a Marsh Harrier to be seen and still loads of farmland linnets, skylarks and meadow pippets to see and hear. Happy wandering!
I've gone wild on Wallasea!
I'll be there!! Still learning the trade so i'll have my trusty book to help me deduce what exactly i'm looking at!! lol.
Growing up, my Mum always claimed to feel bad when a bird would slam head-first into our living room window. If she "really" felt bad, though, she'd have moved the bird feeder outside.
