So you thought our end of Essex was flat and featureless? Well, last saturday we invited visitors to walk, climb or bus their way round the Wild Coast project site and those with a head for heights could get a birds' eye view from the top of the climbing wall!

Thankfully, the weather gods were kind and the crowds came out with the sunshine.  Wallasea Island was open for exploration and many walkers and cyclists did just that. Those with less energy did not miss out. Thanks to Wyvern Community Trust, we were able to offer a bus ride the 2.5 miles from the event's field to the far eastern end of the island, where volunteers were on duty at the viewpoint, pointing out the wildlife and discussing our immense project.

For the less adventurous, hungry or thirsty, our marquees held exhibits from various groups with outdoor pursuits at heart and refreshment for almost any taste. Our Project Manager was on hand to explain the finer details of the Wild Coast project and RSPB South Essex Marshes were represented too.  However, the day was not complete without a visit to the beer tent and a slice of hog roast from nearby Woodford Meats.  Many thanks to Martin for abandoning the Station Arms, Southminster, and dragging Mark out of George's Brewery to bring us our first draught of Wallasea Wench Ale, which was relished by many.   The afternoon was completed by some fine sounds from the Red House Groove band, who may be heard again at our Wild Coast Weekend in September.
If you missed the fun - where were you??  make sure not to miss our next fun day, the Shoreline Scavenge on Saturday August 20. (Details on the events page)

I've gone wild on Wallasea!
