This sanderling was present on Titchwell RSPB beach on 15th May 2009 and, remarkably, just 4 days later was seen again in Iceland.

The very same sanderling has been seen again in the last few days at Titchwell. The bird will probably spend a few days on our Norfolk beaches resting and feeding up prior to continuing it’s journey south to Africa.

Keep on birding!

  • Hi guys

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, the sanderling has not been seen for a good few days now and so may already have moved south for the winter. On the other hand, the Norfolk coast and the Wash is a big place and the bird may still be out there somewhere....  we are keeping our eyes open!

Lots of different research projects are going on all the time for a whole variety of different species both in the UK, Europe and the wider world. You can find out about some of the work we are doing at  www.rspb.org.uk/ourwork Another good website to look at is http://www.bto.org/birdtrack/

    Keep on birding!

  • Hi Dave

What a beauty.  Is the Sanderling still at Titchwell at the moment?

It just show that simple ringing/stored history of the bird opens a whole story book of all of its travels.

Look forward to hearing more about this bird's travels

Is this one study of this bird species or are there other studies going on at the moment?

    Regards

    Kathy and Dave
