Hello everyone!

Well, who knew that a global pandemic would be thrown into the mix of challenges we faced with the construction of the new hide, Knot's Landing, at RSPB Snettisham?!

We are incredibly pleased to let you know that the contractors, Walker Construction Services, were able to figure out a way to work safely through Covid-19, source the materials they needed and proceed to very nearly complete the incredible hide!

Inevitably the construction programme was delayed due to Covid-19. The contractors had to reduce the numbers of personnel on site and there were some delays with materials, which meant we weren’t quite able to finish off the front and sides of the hide before the avocets, black-headed gulls and common terns started to settle down to nest; so the work to the front and sides had to stop. The work to the internals and the rear of the hide was able to continue without causing any disturbance.

Walkers will be returning in late August to finish off the front and sides. We will then erect screening to prevent visitors, on approach to the hide, causing disturbance to birds in the pits and we will be building a boardwalk, from the current boardwalk, to the hide; to create a level access.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 we are not able to hold the big opening ceremony we would have liked, but we’re working on something virtual to show the hide off to you all ahead of your visits. Please watch this space for updates!

The hide itself is incredible. Visually it is stunning, simple, and clever. It is an impressive structure. As we'd hoped it blends with the landscape, feeling like it has always been here. Internally it is uncomplicated, sleek, clean and spacious. Most importantly, the view it offers is first rate. We can’t wait to show you.

With best wishes,

Hayley.
