August 13th – 17th

Hi everyone,

We were carrying out repairs on the hides this week. The company that designed the windows in the Parrinder hide repaired the broken windows and showed us how to repair and maintain them ourselves. They are much simpler than they look. We also made a start repairing some of the old rotten wall panels in Island Hide.

We carried out some more brushcutting this week, cutting in front of Island Hide and Fen Hide to keep the vegetation low so views from the hides are not obstructed.

We put some more seed out for the turtle doves again this week. There has been two turtles doves seen on the reserve quite regularly over the past few weeks and they were seen last week feeding on the seed. The best place to see them seems to be in the dead trees around the fen trail.

Moth morning this week produced 436 moths with a total of 80 different species. Some of the highlights were; Pebble Hook-Tip, Maiden’s Blush, Treble-Bar, Sharp-Angled Peacock, Copper Underwing, Antler Moth, Iron Prominent, Oak Hook-Tip and Straw Underwing.
