As we roll through June on Freshmarsh the Meditteranean and Black headed gulls are busy feeding their youngsters. The avocets are currently still sitting on eggs and a couple of pairs of commen tern can also be found. Various broods of ducklings have been seen including Shoveler, Pochard, Red crested Pochard, Tufted, Gadwall and Mallard so it is worth taking a closer look at the markings on the ducklings to see who they belong to.
The wildlife garden is looking blooming gorgeous, with over 55 flowering plants identified, all of which can be found on the reserve.
This weekend we see June Spring tides which should see plenty of waders being pushed onto the Freshmarsh but we hope there won't be northerly winds as this results in even bigger tides threatening our beach nesting birds.
