Here are the sightings from this week at RSPB Titchwell Marsh, kindly compiled by some of our regular visitors:

Tuesday, 15 September started off very foggy and reports of 33 snipe, two grey wagtail, 29 siskin, a green sandpiper and mistle thrush all heading west. A spotted redshank was spotted on the freshmarsh and a great white egret in the reedbed pools. The highlight was the little bunting seen at Thornham Point!

Wednesday 16 gave us lapland bunting, lesser redpoll and greenshank at Thornham Point and five spoonbill on the freshmarsh. Two Manx shearwaters flew East and an Arctic skua was seen on the sea. A whimbrel was identified on the beach and curlew sandpiper and little stint on the freshmarsh along with 50 ruff and 143 black-tailed godwits.

Thursday 17 September saw 50+ gannets, juvenile kittiwake, and a pintail going West, eight red-throated divers and two little terns on the sea. Cracking views of a snow bunting on beach plus whimbrel, merlin and whinchat on the saltmarsh, a Mediterranean gull, wheatear and yellow wagtail on the freshmarsh. Two brambling, two redwing and four song thrush heading west.

Friday, 18 September delivered nine spoonbill heading East, a whinchat by Island Hide. Four jays, a spotted redshank on freshmarsh and a great skua over the sea. Two hobbies showed very well catching dragon flies over Patsy's Pool and the Visitor Centre. A redstart briefly appeared in the horse paddocks. Snow bunting was again seen on the beach and 90 pink-footed geese flew over to the East. A peregrine was seen from the beach and red-breasted merganser and red-throated diver on the sea. Three wheatear were also seen on the beach. A stonechat was spotted on the West Bank Path and two great white egrets plus a kingfisher from Fen Hide. Finally a green woodpecker and treecreeper were spotted by the visitor centre.
