Whilst walking along the strandline this morning, I found a few interesting items. There were the usual shells, flotsam and jetsam but it must have been quiet rough with the winds last week as there were also larger than usual lumps of peat from the beds that are exposed on the lower shore. This must have been the reason for the couple of large edible crabs I found. This particular individual was over 35cm from claw tip to claw tip!

Another item was a sign from a farm. The sign was the sort you see on the newly provided walks supported by DEFRA. The map was of an area unfarmiliar to me so I took a note of the OS grid reference and checked it on the computer.

The farm in question is nearer to Blacktoft Sands than Titchwell. The sign must have found it's way into the Trent and then joined the Humber to enter the north sea and end up washed up on the shore at Titchwell. Not exactly a message in a bottle but quite well travelled for a sign on a post.

January and February is always a good time for a bit of beach combing so why not give it a go and if you find anything unusual post a photo in the gallery for us all to see.
