A father and young son popped into the shop late this afternoon for some ID advice. The lad had shots on his camera of a pair of bramblings, several lesser redpolls and a female linnet that he'd taken around the pond at the hide! They'd also seen nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker, stock dove and mallard while sitting in there, so what a great birding afternoon they've both had!
We had a reliable report on Friday of a lesser spotted woodpecker along the Sandy Ridge trail. Last year there were a few reports from this specific area, so we'll be eagerly watching this spot over coming weeks.
Wonderful sightings! I bet they were happy.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
