It's that time again when lots of young birds are appearing around the reserve and keeping their parents very busy collecting enough food for their hungry bills. Visitor Mark Collins sent me the excellent shots of a whitethroat carrying food to its nest at the weekend.

We had some great news when three stonechat fledglings were seen on the new heath! The adults have been keeping well out of view, so it was really good to know they have bred successfully here.

The hobby pair are being seen quite regularly now around the Buzzard trail and seem settled in, but we've had no sightings or any reports of nightjars yet this month.

The rain looks as though it is finally on the way today, and Ray Piercy took the picture of the cloud formations this morning, looking like distant mountains!
