The hobbies survived the torrential rain over the weekend, and so did we after camping out for the Big Wild Sleepout on Saturday evening. We did a have a worrying few moments very early on Sunday morning when the nest was checked by Nathan, one of the Big Wild Sleepout volunteers, and there were no sign of any hobbies, but slowly the fluffy white chicks started to emerge and soon after the adults were coming in to feed again.

This will be the last whole week of the hobby watches, and we have volunteers at the nest site to show you the nest and the chicks through a telescope on the dates below.

The chicks normally fledge after four weeks, and we first saw them on 10 July, so we guess anytime this weekend or early next week will see the young finally fly the nest!

Monday         31 July   11 am - 4 pm

Tuesday         01 Aug   11am - 4 pm

Wednesday   02 Aug     1pm - 4 pm

Thursday      03 Aug    1pm - 4 pm

Friday            04 Aug    1pm - 4 pm

Sat                 05 Aug       1pm - 4pm

Just to clarify, you can see the hobbies at any time by following the trail towards Galley Hill from the shop. We have chalkboards with hobby facts along the way, so it is very straightforward, just follow signs to Galley Hill when you reach the junction to Sandy. The hobby watch is when we have volunteers available to be at the nest site.

Enjoy this exciting spectacle!
