A very happy New Year to everyone.
Not the best start to 2017 weather-wise sadly, with heavy rain and now a cold wind blowing through - all leading to a very quiet day here. The best bird sighting was by our intrepid roving ranger Tony, who donned in full waterproof gear, checked the wet reserve and came across a silent flock of 40 or so lesser redpolls. Green woodpecker, red-legged partridge and a colorful jay brightened proceeedings around the visitor info centre on this grey day, but not to surprisingly, few birders have been out today. Luckily for our fully booked Winter Wonderland walk it's looking better tomorrow!
Steve and Lynn Kershaw came to draw the winner for his donated picture of The Lodge birds, and the winner will be notified shortly. Thanks very much to Steve for letting us raise almost £100 from his picture.
