Green woodpecker. Photo by Steve RoundThe nights are drawing in, the leaves are starting to turn orange and it's feeling chilly!

It's not too late to see hobbies at The Lodge, though: a family group of three has been seen over the heath and quarry. I reckon they'll be here til the end of the month and no longer, so time is running out...

It's also a good time of year to see buzzards over The Lodge; they form little groups and circle around together on warm, sunny days. You might hear their mewing calls - then look up into the skies.

The pond outside the hide has been attracting plenty of birds during the recent dry spell, including goldfinches, song thrush and green woodpecker, so why not spend a while watching and waiting there? You never know what might turn up for a drink or a bath.
