Stop press! A white tailed eagle has been seen at Buckenham Marshes. Late afternoon on Wednesday a call came through alerting me of the birds presence, it was perched on a gate post until 19.30 when it roosted in the trees behind the marshes. This morning (Thursday) the bird was seen again until 08.30 when it flew towards Cantley. In my last blog I did say it was an interesting time of the year for birds, but was not expecting an eagle!

The following photos have been taken by James Lowen (Jameslowen.com) they clearly show the shear size of the bird compared to the marsh harriers that are mobbing it!

Other species seen over the past few days include an osprey hunting from Reception this morning as well as a hobby, swift and plenty of kingfisher activity.

Buckenham has been very good for passage waders in the last week with up to seven bar tailed godwits, 12 black tailed godwits, four green sandpipers, a wood sandpiper, greenshank and some fine summer plumaged ruff and dunlin. As well as the waders (and the eagle!) four Arctic terns flew through Buckenham on Monday too.
