A brief blog this week I'm afraid.

The main events of this week were a short eared owl on wednesday seen in the meadows and  a female goosander on the Reception Broad on the same day.

We have had a report that the taiga bean geese have arrived back at Buckenham and Cantley, on Thursday 22 were reported and today 17 were seen.

Bitterns, kingfishers and bearded tits have been seen daily this week, as well as otters nearly daily.

Two Jack Snipe and two water pipits seen on Tuesday morningon a 'rent a warden' guided walk.

32 marsh harriers came into the roost on sunday night, including four adult males.

A drake pintail was present from reception on Sunday and Monday.

Shelduck were seen in small numbers on Sunday and Thursday, an odd bird for the fen in winter.

14 avocet were seen on the river at Buckenham, an unusual site at the best of times, but especially so during the winter months.

The feeders have been a great place to see and photgraph many of the woodland bird species, with nuthatch, marsh tit and jay being the star species.

We have flooded on at least four tides this week so the riverbank and Lackford Run are quite wet and muddy in places, wellies are reccomended, please pay close attention to information on site and high tide times if completing the full circuit. All paths (apart from the meadow trail) are currently open.
