I can’t promise there won’t be more egg puns in this blog… but read on to hear all about the spring events we’ve been busy planning!

Join us for some eggstraordinary goings on at Strumpshaw Fen this Easter

From 2nd to 19th April, we’ll be welcoming families to celebrate the new life we’re seeing all around us this spring. Eggs are popping up all over the reserve! Our very own Easter bunny has created a wildlife themed egg hunt for you to eggxplore (ok… one last pun?). See if you can find all the hidden eggs, and you’ll learn about the amazing wildlife that laid them along the way. Our eggxcellent staff and volunteers have designed some fun eggy activities for you to get involved with too: create your own nest, make your own nature egg decoration to take home and see how far you can balance your egg in our egg and spoon race.

There is no need to book, simply turn up on the day and pick up your trail from Reception to join in. The trail costs £3 per child (normal reserve entry fees apply for non-RSPB members).

It’s not just birds that are preparing for spring on the reserve – life is getting busy for our aquatic creatures too!

If you want to discover the animals that lurk in the hidden depths and whiz across the surface of the water, you can hire a pond-dipping kit from reception for £3. There is no need to book. (Please only use pond dipping equipment provided by us and only at the designated pond-dipping platform. This is for safety and to prevent invasive aquatic species being introduced to the reserve on nets etc.)
