Hi, I’m Brennan one of the RSPB’s Youth Nature Officers working at the South Essex Marshes.
During October half term we hosted our annual Warden Week event. This gave young people the chance to experience life as a warden here at the South Essex Marshes.
We all had a fantastic week, carrying out practical conservation tasks such as habitat maintenance in the form of reedbed cutting, post and rail fencing, surveying mink rafts and we even got the chance to get a sneak preview at our brand new nature reserve Bowers Marsh.
All those who attended had a great week learning about the reserves, the life of an RSPB warden, how to work safely in an outdoor environment and building on teamwork, organisation and communication skills.
If this sounds like an opportunity why not come along to one of our warden days,?
Running every third Sunday of the month from December till March you can learn about practical conservation, the reserves and meet other people with the same interests in wildlife and the outdoors.
