For the last couple of days we've been pumping water (under licence) from the lake to our Marsh Pool. The Marsh Pool had all but dried completely so we're hoping the current rain continues to fall enabling the Marsh Pool to replenish.
The reedbed at the rear of the Marsh is an important area for a number of our bird species, in particular snipe, which should be returning shortly. Without soft mud to probe for food, the snipe will be forced to find more fruitful feeding grounds. We will be monitoring the water levels carefully to maintain the right sort of habitat conditions favoured by our avian visitors.
See you on the reserves,
Best regards,
Chris Edwards
