I was sitting in the classroom at the SPA yesterday when we were visited by a local celebrity. Local champion fundraiser Blind Dave and his running partner Carl popped their heads round the door to ask for a drink of water. As the temperature outside was in the high 20's, the least I could do was to invite them in for a glass or two.

The term 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen' came to mind when I saw the state of them - dripping in sweat from head to toe!

Whilst we were chatting, Dave asked me if there was a bird called a Chiffchaff. He thought Carl was pulling his leg. I told Dave it was true and this little brown bird was one of our earliest visitors from abroad. I then played the bird song for Dave who said he woud now be able to identify it when out on a training run in the Valley.  Carl is a regular visitor to the reserve and his son has a whale of a time attending the Wildlife Explorers club meetings in the SPA - in fact the next one is tomorrow.

Then the pair of them were off again - totally mad!

See you on the reserves,

Best regards,

Chris Edwards
