Hello everyone,
How are you? Have you all been enjoying this weekend? It's been a nice weekend, you should get out and enjoy nature!
So... there has been some nice sightings this week!
Do you remember I told you about a barn owl that was spotted last weekend? It was very exciting as it was going in the box that was built for barn owls. Well, in the week we saw two!
They have only been seen twice to date, so wether they are passing through or might stay we don't know.
A peregrine has been seen a couple of times - keep an eye out, remember to keep your eyes to the skies! They seem to like landing on the pylons.
The bittern is still around. During the week he was showing off, almost out in the open!
They are usually quite difficult to see, they spend their time deep in the reedbeds moving silently around the reserve. You may get a glimpse of them flying over or creeping to the waters edge to fish.
This year the bittern seems to like the Draper hide reedbed the best, but it could be anywhere on the reserve!
A grey wagtail is showing nicely at the Tern Hide. Keep an eye out for the bobbling along the edges of the islands at the Tern hide. The pied wagtail is showing well as well.
Keep en eye out for green sandpipers on shallow islands, probing their beaks into the mud. We've had some nice views from the Tern hide.
The ducks are showing quite nicely too! There have been masses of teal around! Keep an eye out for other ducks, including pochard, shelduck, shoveler, gadwall, mallard, and tufted duck.
There's been masses of fieldfare on the reserve this week! They are red listed birds don't you know!
Don't forget the Big Garden Birdwatch next weekend! Louise
