Nice treat today, my first on the ground great white egret at Rye Meads.
After a fly over this morning spotted by members of the Rye Meads Ringing Group, we thought that was it for this bird. But our volunteer Ann managed to pick it up from the Draper hide this afternoon, great for those of us who missed the flyover this morning. Emerging from the purple loostrife the great white egret continued to parade around the islands edges coming close to the hide, catching a fish after a bit of feet shuffling. A great sight!
Other sightings from Draper hide today include 2 green sandpipers nice numbers of teal and shovler, little egret, buzzard and kingfisher.
The ringers also had a couple of nice birds in the hand including lesser whitethroat and a young kingfisher, along with sighting of male garganey.
So all in all a good day, we hope to see you soon.
Sorry for the quality of pictures.
