Hi everyone. There have been some really great birds today, despite all the water being frozen. A bittern was seen flying from the Tern hide to the Ashby hide around lunch time. This morning a female bullfinch was hanging round outside the back of the centre. Lots of fieldfares around. But the highlight of the day was 8 long tailed tits on the feeding station by the centre! They were absolutely gorgeous flitting backwards and forwards between the feeders and the trees. At one point all 8 of them were on the peanut feeder. Never seen that before at Rye Meads and I've worked here for 19 years! I tried hard to take a photo for you all but unfortunately my photographic skills are rubbish! So put on your warm clothes and come down to the reserve tomorrow. But don't forget to do the BIG GARDEN BRIDWATCH first! If you don't have a garden you can come and do it at the reserve. There will be volunteers to help you with bird ID all weekend. Wrap up warm - its very cold!
The reserve phones are not currently working. If you can't get through please call: 07789654232
Cheers Caroline
Nice Work Caroline, good to hear about the Bittern.
