Hi everyone,
How are you?
I thought I would give you a bit of an update about the wildlife that is around at the moment!
Kingfisher picture by Peter Hewitt
We'll start with kingfishers... To be honest we aren't sure quite what they are doing! We've been getting brilliant views of the kingfisher, although it tends to be the male. The pair have been seen courting recently, although they haven't been doing their typical egg laying behaviour as far as we are aware. So this could mean they are behaving differently from their usual courting behaviour, they have been courting but not in view, or the male is still waiting for the female to show proper interest.
Basically, they are around, but we're not sure what stage they are at, but we have been getting nice views.
There's been some really nice waders sightings this week. Green sandpiper, snipe, lapwing, and little ringed plover have been showing nicely. There was a couple of oystercatchers on the 15th March, and a redshank on the 24th so keep an eye out!
The first of the seasons sedge warblers were seen yesterday, and the blackcaps have been around, so we are getting the first of the migrants in - it's an exciting time, you never know what you might see!
An Egyptian goose and little egret were seen yesterday, as well as our usual ducks that we get on site.
The newish wildlife garden is looking rather lovely at the moment. There are some snakes head fritillary that are looking lovely, so do have a look as you come in!
