Morning everyone,
How are you?
Over at the Kingfisher hide there are a few things... the kingfishers are still feeding young, but don't just look for kingfishers! There is quite a lot around! It's a good place for little birds blue tits (there is a pair nesting in the kingfisher bank too!), great tits, wrens, robins, blackbirds, chaffinchs, and more.
When in the hide you should look up and down too! There has been a watervole showing off right in front of the hide - it's been swimming around in the water right next to the hide, sitting nicely - really showing off, but people haven't been seeing it as everyone is focussed on the kingfishers!
Look up at the pylon too - there is a crows next right at the top of the pylon... see if you can spot it!
The kestrels are nesting in the boxes on the pylon too. Keep an eye out for them!

The kestrel pair have got some quite strange behaviour, so I thought I would let you know what they are up too!
So...they are nesting in the top box:
Great picture by Geoff Harries
This box has been there for about 23 years! We have put a new one on the pylon for them (the lower one) but they seem to like this one best!
We think they are sitting on eggs. With kestrels the female sits on the eggs while the male goes out and finds food to bring for her. This is what they are doing at the moment, you may see the male bringing in some food - listen out for their screechy call.
When he has some food (they eat small mammals and birds) he will take it into the other box, the one lower on the pylon.
The female will come out of the top box, go into the lower box, take the food and fly off into a tree to eat it!
So they are using both boxes! It's like a two story house - nest in the top, dining room in the lower!

So keep your eyes pealed!
