Hi everyone.
Here is a blog from one of Rye Meads' volunteers, Lucy! She wanted to tell you about the holiday activities that we run at Rye Meads:

Hi!
My name is Lucy. I first came to Rye Meads with my Mum and little sister. We saw a poster about an event over the school holidays: the Wacky Wildlife Adventures. It sounded good, so that summer I joined in, and from the age of six I haven't looked back! Now I have progressed to become a young volunteer (one of Rye Meads youngest) along with others who grew up with the Wacky Wildlife Adventures just like me.

The Rye Meads holiday scheme is held in the school holidays and is run by RSPB Field Teachers and volunteers, for children aged 7-13. There are many great things to do including: pond dipping, minibeasting, nature trails, science experiments, wildlife watching, games and craft activities. My favourites are the nature trails and the construction of the bug hotel over the Jubilee weekend (which we called Bugingham Palace!) This inspired me so much that I built my own at my school for everyone to enjoy! Oh and who can forget about the family of foxes!

At Rye Meads we are lucky enough to have a family of foxes who love to come and say hello! The foxes have worked out that if people are having picnics then there might be crumbs that they can lick up. We've called them Alice and Rose.

Another family of animals we get to see is the kingfishers. But wait - it's not just one family! We have two which are a joy to watch. There is a camera in the visitor centre that looks at the bank during breeding season, so we know what they get up to when we have our backs turned!

When you come these families will be just two of the many amazing creatures you will see and get to know. Over time you will learn so much about wildlife just like I have. We learn something new everyday.

So, if you want something fun to do over the holidays Rye Meads is the place for you! Come along and join in, see whay you might discover.
