Hello

A beautiful day to walk round the reserve and enjoy the autumn sunshine.

Loads of dragonflies are on the wing again today along with a few butterflies including a lovely fresh red admiral and a couple of large white. The dragonflies are mainly common darters and hawkers but they were showing off well and the common darters were particularly obliging allowing me to get close enough to take some great snaps with the reserve camera (see below).

Once again lagoon 1 is the place to be for plenty of bird sightings. Todays highlights 86 lapwing,  62 snipe, 131 teal, 12 wigeon, 2 green sandpiper, 99 shoveler and 74 gadwall. Also recordered were  lesser black back, common and black headed gull, cormorant, canada goose, mute swan, little grebe, moorhen, tufted duck, pied wagtail, mallard, coot, crow, cettis warbler and chiff chaff.  A sparrow hawk passed through at a leisurley pace not really hunting but still managed to flush everything off the laggoon and the grey wagtail was once again performing well in font of the hide.

Well that is it from me for a couple of weeks as i am off on holiday this week so don't see anything too good while i am away!!!!

thanks, Vicky
