I just wanted to do a quick list of the different wildlife that we saw in August at Rye Meads!
So here we go:
Water birds and wadersCommon tern, black headed gull, lesser black backed gull, coot, moorhen, grey heron, little egret, cormorant, pochard, gadwall, mallard, tufted duck, garganey (it's been hanging around for a bit, we first saw it on the 19th and we get glimpses of it every couple of days - it was about yesterday as well), shoveler, teal, mute swan, Canada goose, little grebe, greensand piper, common sandpiper (on the 11th, 26th, 31st and even the 1st September), sniper, lapwing, oystercatcher, greenshank (on the 25th and 26th) and black tailed godwits (we had 6 of them on the 19th!)
WarblersChiffchaff, blackcap, reed warbler, sedge warbler, cettis warbler, and white throat.
Other birdsPheasant, greenfinch, chaffinch, goldfinch, great tit, blue tit, long tailed tit, blackbird, wren, dunnock, robin, reed bunting, green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, magpie, jay, kestrel, sparrowhawk, barn owl (it was seen in the day time on the 15th!), red kite (flew over the Draper), and housemartin (there were 12 on the 26th)
Butterflies and dragonfliesSmall tortoiseshell, painted lady, red admiral, specked wood, comma, peacock, gatekeeper, blue tailed damselfly, banded demoiselle, southern hawker, and brown hawker.
Mammals and reptileFox, rabbit, watervole, stoat, shrew, weasel, muntjac, and grass snake.
