Yesterday was the first 'nice' day (they are all nice out here really!) since our return. Derek delivered a consignment of hard feed for the sheep and with no crane at the moment (still in the workshop being repaired) it was a good workout to start the day!

Derek on way over - the sea was the calmest it has been in over a month

After that we headed off to feed the sheep. Our Welsh Mountain ewes need a helping hand in tough winters and some remember only took well and get a bit cheeky when they hear the bike coming!

The sheep behind me is one of our former bottle fed 'molly' lambs called 'Ruby' who has no fear - even with the dog glaring at her!

Feeding time at the zoo!.....

After that we went for a full walk round, our first complete circuit since getting back. All seemed well, a few minor rockfalls on the west coast and Porth Lleuog, which normally sits under a pile of plastic rubbish after a storm had been stripped bare by the ferocity of the sea over the past few weeks. Nothing to celebrate though as it will have just washed in somewhere else along the coast. A small number of grey seals were hauled out here going through their moult process. It must have been difficult for them to haul out over the past few weeks and numbers are certainly lower than when we left 3 weeks ago so it will be interesting to see what happens

Small numbers of chough were present around the coast with 20+ lapwing in the central fields. Just off the harbour a large flock of gulls sat on the water close in. This is a common site in winter as they wait for the flood tide to start and then feed in the upwellings around the Bitches reef. Black headed gulls usually dominate and today was no exception with 255 present. In addition were 2 Mediterranean gulls and an impressive 4 Little Gulls

The weather today has reverted to type and the week ahead looks mixed but at least the most fierce storms seemed to have abated for now - it only reached gale force today!
