Ramsey’s rich run of form continues with a Booted warbler on the island yesterday!

I found it on the way back from a seal round skulking in a bramble bush at the top of the farmhouse valley. It's discovery was all the more surprising as I hadn't seen another migrant all day! Typically I didn’t have the camera with me and had to wait an hour for Lisa to get back with it. Even more typically by that time the bird had vanished!

An hour later we re-found it in nearby gorse bushes and finally got the shots we needed. Thanks to our friend Steve Votier for helping out with the ID and for advice on splitting it from the very similar Syke’s warbler.

Unfortunately there was no sign of the bird this morning but a big thanks to the 5 local Pembs birders who came over and searched all day. This is a first record for Ramsey and up to 2007 there had only been 2 other previous records in Pembrokeshire.

The forecast is promising  for the rest of the week for rare and scarce migrants with east or south easterly winds and periods of rain and drizzle. Following on from the Bonelli's warbler earlier this month we are now hoping for a September hat trick of rare birds and then there is October to look forward to......
